Refractor Telescopes

Refractor Telescopes

When most people think of telescopes, they usually picture refractor telescopes. These telescopes have the same look as the cheap department store variety, but usually the resemblance ends there. A refractor telescope is usually housed in a long, thin tube, mounted on a tripod. This design makes refractor telescopes somewhat portable, and easy to use. A refractor telescope is usually used to observe the moon, sun, and planets.

One very important factor to consider when buying a refractor is the telescopes aperture. This is the diameter of its light gathering lens. You should look for an aperture of at least 70mm, but realize that a larger diameter is preferred.
